The dream of building a future in the United States ended in heartbreak for two young women from Telangana after they were killed in a tragic road accident in California. Pullakhandam Meghana Rani and Kadiyala Bhavana, both Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), lost their lives while returning from a short leisure trip with friends, according to information shared by local media reports and family members in India.

Meghana and Bhavana hailed from Garla Mandal in Mahabubabad district and had moved to the US around three years ago to pursue higher education. Both completed their master’s degrees from reputed universities and were actively exploring job opportunities with hopes of settling abroad. Their journey reflected the aspirations of many young Indians who travel overseas seeking professional growth and stability.

The fatal accident occurred on Sunday evening when the group of eight friends was travelling by car after a weekend trip. While negotiating a sharp curve, the vehicle reportedly lost control and plunged into a deep gorge. Meghana and Bhavana died on the spot due to the impact, while the remaining passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.

  • Local police authorities promptly reached the site and initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident

  • Preliminary reports suggest that road conditions and the sharp bend may have contributed to the mishap, though officials are continuing their inquiry

Back in Telangana, the devastating news has cast a shadow of grief over their native villages. Families, friends, and neighbours are struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss of two promising young lives. Meghana’s father, Nageshwara Rao, runs a Mee-Seva centre in Garla, while Bhavana’s father serves as the Deputy Sarpanch of Mulkanoor village. Both families are reportedly in deep shock and are making arrangements to bring the bodies back to India for the final rites.

As news of the tragedy spread, messages of condolence poured in from community members and local leaders, who described the incident as a heartbreaking blow to the region. The incident once again highlights the uncertainties faced by Indians living and travelling abroad, and the emotional toll such tragedies take on families thousands of miles away.
