UAE Clarifies Golden Visa process amid misinformation surge

  • Authorities warn against Golden Visa scam, says official channels only for residency applications

  • Applicants are strongly encouraged to verify all Golden Visa-related information directly from the UAE government’s official website or contact the Authority’s 24-hour call center at 600522222. The incident underscores the importance of relying on verified sources rather than social media posts or unlicensed intermediaries when navigating important immigration processes.

The United Arab Emirates has issued an official clarification to address growing confusion surrounding its Golden Visa program, following a wave of misleading reports, particularly in Indian media. These reports falsely claimed that Indian nationals could acquire lifetime UAE residency by simply paying AED 100,000 through external consultancy firms.

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security has firmly denied such claims, reiterating that no unauthorized consultancy—either inside or outside the UAE—is permitted to process Golden Visa applications. All applications must be submitted through official UAE government platforms, including their website and smart application.

A Golden Visa is a long-term residency permit, typically valid for 10 years with renewal options. It allows foreign nationals to live, work, and study in the UAE without the need for traditional sponsorship through employment or a business. Golden Visa holders can sponsor family members, own property, and remain abroad for extended periods without risking their residency status.

  • As of 2025, the UAE offers twelve official categories under the Golden Visa program, with new additions for nurses, educators, digital content creators, e-sports professionals, and luxury yacht owners

  • Regardless of the category, each application must adhere to the established legal framework and approval process

Recent media reports suggested that applicants, especially from India, could bypass standard investment criteria—such as the AED 2 million property ownership requirement—by paying a nominal fee through private consultants. However, these representations have been officially labeled as false and lacking any legal foundation.

The misinformation appears to stem from confusion around a new nomination-based pathway introduced as part of a pilot initiative. While the UAE has expanded its eligibility categories to include skilled professionals in fields such as science, technology, medicine, and the arts, all applications under these categories still require formal nominations and a rigorous evaluation process.

In response to the circulating misinformation, the Authority confirmed that all valid Golden Visa pathways and conditions are clearly outlined in official legislation and are accessible through verified UAE government platforms. Misleading advertisements and unofficial consultancy claims have not only confused applicants but also pose a risk of financial exploitation.

Authorities have emphasized that any third-party entity claiming to guarantee Golden Visa approvals in exchange for money is operating outside the bounds of the law. Legal action may be pursued against firms or individuals promoting such schemes.
