The scheme offers Dh35,000 coverage for a nominal Dh32 premium, ensuring financial security for workers and their families
A newly introduced insurance scheme in the UAE provides financial protection for Indian blue-collar workers, offering coverage of Dh35,000 for a premium as low as Dh32 in the event of natural or accidental death, reported khaleejtimes.com.
Comprehensive Coverage at Affordable Rates
The initiative, coordinated by the Consulate General of India in Dubai in collaboration with Nexus Insurance Brokers and Dubai National Insurance (DNI), aims to provide critical financial aid to the families of deceased workers.
“This insurance scheme ensures essential support for Indian labourers, covering not just workplace incidents but also deaths occurring anywhere in the world,” said Satish Kumar Sivan, Consul General of India in Dubai. The plan also includes partial and full disability coverage and up to Dh12,000 for repatriation of mortal remains, an essential aspect for families wishing to see their loved ones one last time.
Bridging a Crucial Gap in Worker Protection
Previously, most companies in the UAE provided insurance under Health Insurance and Workers’ Compensation, covering only work-related injuries and deaths.
However, there was no mandatory coverage for natural deaths, leaving the families of deceased employees without financial assistance.

Launched on March 1, 2024, the Life Protection Plan for Indian workers in the UAE offers compensation up to Dh75,000 with a Dh72 annual premium

Insurance providers are also exploring expanded coverage options, including Dh50,000 for Dh50 and Dh100,000 for Dh100 per year
“This initiative considers employers’ budget constraints, ensuring affordable premiums while providing essential financial security to workers and their families,” said Sanghamitra Banerjee, Manager-Life at Dubai National Insurance.
Free Digital Literacy Programme for Indian Workers
In addition to the insurance plan, the Indian Consulate is launching a free, multilingual Online Digital Literacy Programme in partnership with KMCC. The initiative will educate workers on cyber security, AI applications, and fraud protection over an eight-week online course.
“With rising cyber fraud cases, we want to equip our workers with essential digital skills,” added Sivan. The program will be accessible through Google Meet, allowing workers to learn at their convenience.
