CCTV footage also captured him fleeing the scene
A Ludhiana court has awarded life imprisonment without remission to a UK-based Non-Resident Indian (NRI) for the brutal murder of his sister’s parents-in-law, bringing closure to a case that shocked Punjab four years ago.
The verdict was delivered by Additional Sessions Judge Amandeep Kaur, who found Charanjit Singh (39), a resident of the United Kingdom, guilty of murdering Sukhdev Singh and his wife Gurmeet Kaur. The double murder took place on 4 May 2022 at the couple’s home in BRS Nagar, Ludhiana. Singh was arrested three days later, on 7 May 2022.

According to the prosecution, Charanjit Singh stabbed the elderly couple multiple times with a knife, killing them on the spot

The court rejected his claim of innocence after examining strong evidence and witness testimonies presented during the lengthy trial
The case was registered at Sarabha Nagar police station based on a complaint by the victims’ daughter, Rupinder Kaur. Prosecutors examined 13 witnesses, whose statements helped establish the accused’s guilt beyond doubt.
During the trial, Singh claimed that his actions were driven by concern for his sister, Sanpreet Kaur, who is married to the victims’ son and lives with him in Edinburgh, Scotland. Singh alleged that the elderly couple had harassed his sister. Police, however, stated that the couple was planning to travel to Scotland within a week, and Singh feared they would continue troubling her there. This fear allegedly led him to plan the murders.
Rupinder Kaur told police that she was speaking to her father on the phone at the time of the attack. She heard a knock on the door, followed by sudden screams. When she rushed home, she found both her parents lying dead in a pool of blood.
