New initiative aims to position UK as a global hub for science, innovation, and technology
In a bold move to solidify its standing as a global leader in science and innovation, the United Kingdom has unveiled a £54 million initiative to attract world-class researchers, entrepreneurs, and innovators — with a strong focus on Indian talent. The announcement comes ahead of the UK government’s upcoming modern Industrial Strategy , reported gujaratsamachar.com.
The flagship feature of this strategy is the formation of a Global Talent Taskforce, bolstered by a £54 million Global Talent Fund designed to ease relocation and support research for exceptional talent over the next five years. The fund will be administered through UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) in partnership with top universities.
The initiative includes expanded fellowship schemes designed to accelerate recruitment of international talent:
-
Turing AI ‘Global’ Fellowships – £25 million dedicated to attracting elite AI researchers to UK institutions.
-
Encode: AI for Science Fellowship – Bringing global AI talent to UK labs, with fellows expected to arrive by Autumn 2025.
-
Faraday Discovery Fellowship (Royal Society) – A £30 million push to fast-track global researcher hiring.
-
Green Future Fellowships (Royal Academy of Engineering) – Part of a £150 million endowment to attract world-renowned engineering talent.
Altogether, these programmes represent more than £115 million in support of global talent acquisition.
The UK’s new talent strategy also highlights a strengthened association with India — opening fresh funding avenues and collaboration opportunities for Indian innovators. With this comprehensive approach, the UK aims to become a preferred destination for cutting-edge research and disruptive innovation.
