The United Kingdom witnessed a substantial surge in Indian migration, with the influx reaching 253,000 individuals in the year 2023. This notable increase contributed to the annual net migration rising from 607,000 to 672,000 by the end of June 2023, compared to the previous year. Remarkably, the projected net migration for December 2022 was upwardly revised to 745,000, signifying a significant uptick of 139,000.

Over the past decade, the political landscape in Britain has been significantly impacted by heightened levels of legal migration. Despite already being at notably elevated levels, the current figure surpasses the 2015 count of 329,000, more than doubling it.

Y-axis.com reported that among the Indian nationals granted immigration privileges, categories included students, health workers, skilled professionals, and care visas. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) highlighted that the majority of migrants arriving through humanitarian channels aimed to fill crucial roles in the health and care sectors, constituting a significant portion of recent net migration data.

Official immigration data released revealed that the number of visas extended to Indian skilled workers, medical professionals, and students remained consistent, resulting in a total of 253,000 Indian nationals migrating to the UK in 2023.

In September 2023, both the UK Home Office and ONS data indicated that Indian nationals dominated the skilled worker and health and care visa categories. Notably, Indians comprised 43% of the student visa category, securing the largest share and subsequently becoming the predominant group eligible for the new Graduate visa route upon completing their studies.

Within the skilled worker visa category, 38,866 Indian applicants were recorded, and there was a substantial 76% increase in the number of Indian applicants for Health and Care visas.

The data further revealed that 133,237 sponsored student visas were granted to Indian nationals, making them the largest group in this category. Additionally, they constituted the highest percentage (27%) of visitor visas issued. In September 2023, Indian nationals held the second-highest number of dependents in the UK, surging from 2,127 to 43,445.

It’s noteworthy that only students enrolled in postgraduate research programs are permitted to bring family members, including elderly parents and children, as their dependents.
