Australia’s University of Wollongong (UOW) has officially commenced its operations in Gujarat’s GIFT City, becoming the second Australian university after Deakin to establish a campus in India. To mark the inaugural year, UOW India has introduced substantial scholarships, designed to support full-time students in the initial batch.

In an interview with financialexpress.com, Nimay Kalyani, Director of UOW India, outlined the Inaugural Scholarships available for all Master’s and Master’s Extension students, who receive a 50% waiver on tuition fees for the first trimester. Graduate Certificate students enjoy a 25% fee reduction for the same period. The waiver is applied during fee payment, and all students enrolled full-time are eligible, regardless of nationality.

Further emphasizing UOW’s commitment to education affordability, Kalyani mentioned that the university plans to roll out additional scholarships regularly. A new “Women Leaders in FinTech” scholarship program will soon commence, offering three eligible candidates a 50% tuition fee reduction across a two-year course. Indian citizens enrolled in either the Master of Financial Technology (FinTech) or the Master of Financial Technology (FinTech) Extension program can benefit from this scholarship, set to begin in November. The program offers fee waivers across all trimesters, with a 100% waiver in the final term. UOW India will automatically select the top three eligible students for this award, making the process seamless.

The university aims to deliver a curriculum that responds to India’s evolving educational and economic needs, focusing initially on disciplines such as IT, STEM, business, and fintech. Kalyani highlighted that UOW intends to expand its course offerings over time, driven by demand within the Indian market.

  • With a focus on real-world employability, UOW India facilitates diverse placement opportunities for its students across multiple sectors

  • Graduates will have access to roles in multinational corporations, global system integrators, independent software vendors, research and development organizations, and startups, offering a strong foundation for success in today’s competitive job landscape

UOW India has assembled a team of instructors, including fly-in faculty from its Australia and Dubai campuses, and is working on developing a robust local faculty network. To enhance the quality of its education further, UOW India has partnered with IBM to provide advanced training in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and blockchain. The collaboration offers students access to IBM’s Innovation Centre for Education (ICE), equipping them with sought-after technical skills through specialized courses tailored to industry demands.

This partnership places UOW India among a select group of Indian engineering institutions with direct access to IBM’s training resources. Kalyani noted, “This collaboration aims to prepare students for the global job market with industry-relevant skills, internships, and career opportunities.”
