Victim, visiting for Holi, was attacked in front of his mother and daughter
A US-based Non-Resident Indian (NRI), who had returned to Vaishali district, Bihar, to celebrate Holi, was shot dead during a chain-snatching attempt on Friday morning, police confirmed, reported yespunjab.com.
NRI Killed in Front of Family During Robbery
The victim, Rahul Anand, was traveling with his mother and daughter when two bike-borne assailants stopped him, pretending to ask for directions. In a sudden turn of events, they snatched his gold chain, leading to a scuffle.
During the altercation, the pillion rider pulled out a gun and shot Anand in the chest, before speeding away from the crime scene.
Police Investigation Underway
Severely injured, Rahul Anand was rushed to a local hospital and later referred to Paras Hospital in Patna, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Rajapakad police have launched an investigation and are scanning CCTV footage from the area. Veena Kumari, SHO of Rajapakad police station, stated that the case has been registered under relevant sections of Bhartiya Nyay Sahita and efforts are being made to identify the accused.
Rising Concerns Over Safety of NRIs in Bihar
Rahul Anand, a hotel management professional working in the US, was the son of Ramashankar Chaudhary from Deeh Bucholi village, Mahisaur police station limits.
His tragic death has once again raised concerns over the safety of NRIs visiting India, particularly in regions where they may be unaware of local security risks.
