The accused posed as the NRI’s ‘brother’ using forged Aadhaar, PAN, and a fabricated gift deed to execute the fraudulent sale, police said
A Punjab resident and his associates allegedly duped a New York-based non-resident Indian (NRI) by fraudulently selling his Gurugram plot for ₹10.7 crore, using forged documents including a fake gift deed. According to police, the accused Manish Kumar (45), who worked in the office of an arhtiya (commission agent) in Ferozepur, posed as the ‘brother’ of NRI Gaurav Narula to carry out the fraudulent transfer of ownership, reported hindustantimes.com.
Narula, who has lived in the US since 1982 and became an American citizen in 1997, had inherited the 810 sq m plot in Sushant Lok 1 from his father, Hans Raj Narula, in 1991. The accused allegedly created a forged gift deed dated June 3, 2024, falsely showing that Narula had transferred the property to his ‘brother.’ The document was fraudulently registered at the Wazirabad sub-registrar’s office in Gurgaon.

Forgery, impersonation, and fraudulent sale
The complaint stated that impersonators posed as Narula to execute the fabricated deed, even though he has not visited India since 2020. The accused also allegedly used a forged Aadhaar in Narula’s name, despite him never having one, along with a fake PAN card number. After registering the false deed, Kumar sold the plot for ₹10.7 crore.
Police said a case was registered at DLF Sector 29 police station under BNS sections related to cheating, forgery, and impersonation. The investigation was taken up by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW-1). “Another person appeared as Gaurav Narula to execute the fabricated deed,” the complaint noted. The plot remains secured with a boundary wall.
ASI Sandeep Kumar, police spokesperson, confirmed the arrest of Manish Kumar on August 28, adding that further investigation is underway to trace his associates.
