The Biden Administration’s key envoy for South and Central Asia, Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu, is visiting India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal from December 3 to December 10, 2024. In India, Donald Lu will join Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Kritenbrink to lead the US delegation in the US-India East Asia Consultations. This engagement focuses on bolstering collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region and addressing global and regional challenges.
Lu will also meet with youth leaders to better understand their aspirations and discuss the future trajectory of US-Nepal relations
Meetings with senior Indian officials will further enhance strategic ties and explore avenues for cooperation on issues ranging from defense and technology to climate action.
On December 5, Lu will travel to Sri Lanka, where he will be accompanied by USAID Deputy Assistant Administrator Anjali Kaur and Treasury Department Deputy Assistant Secretary Robert Kaproth. Their discussions with Sri Lankan leaders and civil society representatives aim to strengthen governance, combat corruption, and promote sustainable economic development. The US delegation will explore how tailored technical assistance and development programs can support Sri Lanka’s economic reform agenda.
The tour will conclude in Nepal, where Lu will engage with senior leaders on critical issues such as environmental protection, women’s empowerment, and sustainable development.
