Usha Vance, the wife of Vice-President JD Vance, made history on Monday when she became the first Indian-American and Hindu Second Lady of the United States. She joined her husband during his swearing-in ceremony as the 50th Vice President, capturing attention with her elegant bubblegum pink long coat, matching scarf and belt, and pearl earrings, reported gujaratsamachar.com.

US President Donald Trump praised Usha Vance, calling her “smarter than her husband,” as the couple garnered widespread admiration

President Donald Trump praised Usha Vance on Tuesday, stating she was “smarter than her husband.” Trump reminisced about endorsing JD Vance, describing him as a “great senator” but humorously pointed out that Usha was the smarter one. He also joked that he would have chosen her for the role but noted, “succession does not work like that.”

  • A moment of pride was captured during the inauguration, as Usha stood alongside JD Vance, holding the Bible in one hand and their daughter Mirabel Rose in the other

  • The image of her gazing at her husband with pride captured the hearts of many netizens, with one social media user commenting, “Get yourself a girl who looks at you like Usha Vance looks at J.D. Vance.”

Usha Vance hails from a family of Indian immigrants. Her father, Radhakrishna “Krish” Chilukuri, is an aerospace engineer, while her mother, Lakshmi Chilukuri, serves as the provost at the University of California, San Diego. She met JD Vance while they were both law students at Yale University.

JD Vance, who came from a troubled background, credited Usha as his “spirit guide” in his memoir, highlighting her pivotal role in helping him navigate life at Yale and his professional journey. They married in 2014.

Usha, a corporate litigator, left her prestigious law firm after JD Vance was named Vice President candidate. She had previously clerked for Chief Justice John Roberts and Judge Kavanaugh. Usha switched her political allegiance from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party, influenced by JD Vance’s views.

In 2020, Kamala Harris made history as the first Indian-American and female Vice President of the US. Now, Usha Vance continues to break new ground as the first Indian-American and Hindu Second Lady.
