Vaccine row: Reciprocal action on UK citizens to be imposed by India

It will now be mandatory for British nationals arriving in India, to undergo 10 days of quarantine from October 4. According to official sources, the issue regarding UK not recognising Indian vaccine certificates has not been resolved yet

In a reciprocal action initiated by the Government of India, following the vaccine certification row between the two countries, their vaccination status notwithstanding, it will now be mandatory for British nationals arriving in India, to undergo 10 days of quarantine from October 4. According to official sources, the issue regarding UK not recognising Indian vaccine certificates has not been resolved yet.

It may be recalled, India’s Covaxin has not yet been approved by WHO. Hence international travel for Indian nationals, has got complicated. “It is offensive to ask fully vaccinated Indians to quarantine,” India’s Foreign Secretary Harsh V Shringla had said and had spoken about reciprocal measures. Lawmaker, Jairam Ramesh, had criticised the decision and stated, “smacks of racism.” The approved vaccines are: Oxford/AstraZeneca, Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna or Janssen.

 

The pre-departure COVID-19 RT-PRC test within 72 hours before travel, will now be a must under the norms for all British nationals arriving in India from the UK, irrespective of their vaccination status. They will also have to undertake COVID-19 RT-PCR test on arrival

 

Official sources have said that India’s new regulations applicable to all British nationals arriving in India from the UK, will come into effect from October 4. The pre-departure COVID-19 RT-PRC test within 72 hours before travel, will now be a must under the norms for all British nationals arriving in India from the UK, irrespective of their vaccination status. They will also have to undertake COVID-19 RT-PCR test on arrival.
