India-US Strategic Partnership: Visit aims to build on momentum from PM Modi’s February trip and strengthen defence, trade and tech ties under COMPACT framework
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri will visit Washington, D.C., from May 27 to 29 for high-level meetings with senior officials of the U.S. Administration. The diplomatic outreach is aimed at furthering the progress made during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United States in February 2025.
Aimed at enhancing defence, trade, and tech cooperation under compact initiative.
The February summit had witnessed the formal launch of the India-U.S. COMPACT (Catalysing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce & Technology) for the 21st Century
Misri’s meetings in Washington are expected to reinforce commitments made under this new strategic framework, focusing on deepening military collaboration, expanding bilateral trade, and accelerating technological cooperation between the two democracies.
This visit comes at a time when global geopolitics continues to shift, and India and the U.S. are seeking to further align their interests on Indo-Pacific security, defence manufacturing, critical technologies, and resilient supply chains. The meetings are also expected to prepare ground for further high-level engagements later in the year.
