Even as some countries have started processing policies for booster dose of Covid-19 vaccines, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has called upon rich nations to desist from the rolling it out till the end of September to help economically weak nations get the vaccines on time.

There has been big rich and poor divide in the administration of Covid-19 vaccines, as some 4 billion vaccine doses have been administered. Among the receivers, 80 per cent are people in high- and upper-middle-income countries.

Among the countries, UAE and UK have decided to go for booster doses

The WHO Director General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus made an appeal to pause the booster dose for the time being and said, “Even as hundreds of millions of people are still waiting for their first dose, some rich countries are moving towards booster doses.”

Among the countries, UAE and UK have decided to go for booster doses.

With over 16.88 million anti-Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in the United Arab Emirates, the country has adopted a booster dose policy based on individual priority.

Among the group of people to take the booster dose on priority basis are high-risk people like senior citizens and those with chronic diseases.

The high-risk people would get the booster dose three months after taking the first dose.

Common people can take the booster dose six months after both doses.

The UK is also preparing for booster doses from September in case case extra protection is needed to deal with waning immunity from initial doses and to bolster protection against new variants of the SARS CoV2.
