A 68-year-old Indian-origin businessman was shot dead in what authorities are describing as a targeted attack in Abbotsford’s west end on Monday morning, , reported gujaratsamachar.com.

The Abbotsford Police Department said on X (formerly Twitter) that officers were called to the 31300 block of Ridgeview Drive around 9:22 am following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, patrol units secured the area and located the victim, who had sustained multiple injuries.

Police said the man was found inside a parked vehicle with life-threatening gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene despite prompt response from first responders

Authorities have yet to release the victim’s identity, pending notification of next of kin. Police confirmed that the incident appeared to be isolated to the single vehicle involved and that no other injuries were reported.

The Major Crime Unit of the Abbotsford Police Department initially took charge of the investigation before transferring it to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) for further probe. A heavy police presence remained at the scene through the day as investigators gathered evidence and spoke with witnesses.

“This appears to be a targeted shooting,” the police statement read, noting that the investigation is still in its early stages as authorities work to establish a possible motive.

The killing has sent shockwaves through Abbotsford’s close-knit Indian community, which has seen a rise in violent crimes targeting South Asian individuals in recent years. Police have urged anyone with surveillance footage or information to come forward to assist the investigation.
