Oman to host high-level discussions on maritime trade, security, and regional stability
Muscat is set to host the 8th Indian Ocean Conference (IOC) on February 16 and 17 under the theme ‘Voyage to New Horizons of Maritime Partnership’. The event, represented by Oman’s Foreign Ministry, aims to bolster maritime security, enhance sustainable trade, and promote international cooperation among Indian Ocean nations, reported muscatdaily.com.
The conference will serve as a key platform for strategic dialogue on maritime governance and economic growth.
Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, Oman’s Foreign Minister, highlighted that hosting the conference reflects Oman’s crucial role in fostering regional stability and prosperity. The discussions will focus on strengthening maritime partnerships, addressing security concerns, and exploring economic cooperation to drive investment and trade within the region.
Key topics include securing freedom of navigation, leveraging modern technology for port governance, and aligning with Oman Vision 2040 to enhance regional maritime sustainability. With over 60 countries and international organizations expected to participate, the event will facilitate new partnerships and reinforce Oman’s leadership in maritime diplomacy.
Since its inception in 2016, the Indian Ocean Conference has become a vital forum for regional and global maritime stakeholders. Countries like Oman, India, Sri Lanka, Australia, and Singapore continue to play significant roles in shaping strategic discussions, ensuring the sustainable growth of the Indian Ocean region.
