Andhra Pradesh has earned the prestigious SKOCH Award, recognised for uplifting orphaned children by equipping them with employable skills and paving the way for long-term financial independence.
Handloom and Textiles Commissioner G. Rekharani said the programme to uplift orphaned children by equipping them with employable skills encourages eco-friendly textile production by blending traditional handloom practices with local value addition. She highlighted that the initiative is designed to create sustainable income opportunities while preserving the rich heritage of handloom weaving.
The commissioner noted that the ‘Magic Weaves’ programme would play a key role in transforming women from self-help groups (SHGs) into entrepreneurs. She added that this initiative can open new avenues for women’s empowerment and financial independence.
The programme is also making a strong social impact by training orphaned children, single mothers and pregnant women in cloth grading and the creation of value-added products such as bags, pouches, garments, file covers, and medicine kits, thereby fostering skill development and livelihood opportunities for vulnerable sections.
“Under the leadership of our Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Andhra Pradesh remains committed to inclusive growth, sustainable development, and empowering disadvantaged communities through innovative handloom-based initiatives,” said Rekha Rani.
