Thailand Ambassador to India, Pattarat Hongtong, said that “recognising the size and potential” of the India market, airline companies, both on the Indian and the Thai side will be keen to bring back the full capacity back as quickly as possible as India reopens the scheduled international flights started the summer schedule starting March 27.

Speaking to ETTravelWorld, the Thailand Ambassador said that while both Thailand and India have a multi-dimensional and comprehensive bilateral relationship, tourism is an important pillar of that relationship. There have been 300 weekly flights connecting India and Thailand offering 60,000 seats on a weekly basis, she said.

India and Thailand will be celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relationship this year and there will be many cultural events and other events to build awareness about economic policies spread across the year as part of the celebrations, she said. “We will finalise the schedule of events in consultation with Indian authorities,” she said.

Ambassador Hongtong stressed on developing a deeper understanding about each other through people to people exchanges between the two countries. Although there were scholarship-based exchanges happening already, Ambassador Hongtong said that “it is too small” when compared to the size of the population. “I want more young Indians to know about Thailand and more young Thais to learn about India,” she said.

The Thai Ambassador said that her country was keen to explore enhanced cooperation in areas of science, technology and innovation with India considering India’s knowledge and expertise in the IT side. “We want our young people to be trained in the IT sector,” she said.
