Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Transport & Highways speaking in Parliament on March 23 outlined the major road projects that are underway in different parts of the country. These projects would help to boost spiritual tourism in the country in a big way.
Gadkari said that the road connecting Pithoragarh to Kailash Mansarovar would be ready by end of next year and will help Indian pilgrims to visit the holy place without entering Nepal. He also said that the ring road project in Ayodhya in UP was expected to be ready by the end of this year. He mentioned several other big budget projects like the Buddha circuit (INR 20,000 crore); Chardham circuit (INR 12,000 crore), etc. All these projects were expected to be ready by the end of next year.
“The government is also considering the introduction of road tram projects on the lines of the Kolkata tram service and ropeways in different parts of the country to unlock the transportation-related bottlenecks and boost tourism.”
Other important National Highway projects that will improve connectivity and reduce travel time drastically are the Srinagar – Mumbai Highway (20 hrs); Delhi – Mumbai (12 hrs); Delhi – Dehradun (2 hrs) and Delhi -Ahmedabad (4 hrs). He pointed out that these NH projects would be completed on a priority basis.
He said that the government was also considering the introduction of road tram projects on the lines of the Kolkata tram service and ropeways in different parts of the country to unlock the transportation-related bottlenecks and boost tourism.
