India to see strong global travel bookings

When compared to 2021, European countries like France, Italy, Spain, and Japan saw almost 5 times higher bookings as compared to the same period last year

Global SaaS provider for travel and hospitality, RateGain Travel Technologies released an industry report on March 23 that highlights the fact that other than Hong Kong, China and Russia, all major countries had higher bookings as compared to January 2022 when the world was engulfed in the Omicron Wave.

RateGain analysed bookings over the last three months and compared bookings for the month of February to the previous year to understand if the industry was on track for recovery and a healthy 2022. When compared to 2021, European countries like France, Italy, Spain, and Japan saw almost 5 times higher bookings as compared to the same period last year. Following them was Germany and the UK that have been witnessing 110-150 per cent increase in bookings.

Bookings have gone up across cities in February as Covid waned. These cities are Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Aurangabad, Jammu, Bengaluru and Delhi registering a 40-50 per cent growth in bookings. Cities like Mumbai, Goa, Mysore, Pondicherry led the pack with a month on month bookings increase between 70-90 per cent

India, Mexico, US, UAE have recorded double digit growth compared to last year. RateGain said with India resuming scheduled commercial international air travel in a few days after a period of two years, tourists would be back. This would help in direct as well as indirect job creation in a sector which has been a key contributor to the GDP of India.

RateGain said its demand-AI suggested that demand in Delhi would increase by over 150 per cent as compared to last year on April 2, 2022 which is the first weekend after the resumption of scheduled commercial international air operations. Similarly, travel demand in Mumbai will increase by 51 per cent as compared to last year, the company said.
