MUSCAT: Gary Kirsten Cricket to hold high-performance camp in Oman

Coaching clinics for Omani coaches and youngsters from October 5-9

It is not often that young cricketers and coaches in Oman get lessons and training sessions from one of world’s renowned cricket academies. Oman Cricket’s endeavour to get the local talent and coaches high-class coaching and training has led them rope in Gary Kirsten Cricket Academy for a high-performance camp at the Oman Cricket Academy in Al Amerat from October 5-9.

The five-day camp will have three days devoted to youngsters (age group from 14-19) and a course for Oman coaches. With an aim to have a strong foundation, the visiting team from Gary Kirsten Cricket will also organise a day-long grassroots camp.

Evert Laubscher, Oman Cricket Academy manager, said that a team of three high-performance coaches from Gary Kirsten Cricket (GKC) will be conducting the camp.

Among the GKC coaches expected to arrive in Oman are Ryan Cook, Jimmy Cook, Ryan Van Niekerk, Garreth Von Hoesslin, Murray Ranger, Justin Kemp and Russel Symcox.

Laubscher said the inaugural camp will be organised by three GKC coaches but in the future there may be more coaches coming down. GKC founder Gary Kirsten is also likely to pay a visit to Oman in the future.

Since his retirement in 2004, the former opening batter has devoted his time coaching international teams and franchises and tasted tremendous success, leading India to a World Cup title in 2011 and more recently as a mentor of Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022

 

In a video message, Kirsten said: “We can’t wait to share our best thinking with Oman’s best talent . This camp is only the beginning of some exciting things to come, I look forward to seeing and meeting everyone as this partnership grows.”

Laubscher said: “We at Oman cricket are delighted to be hosting a coaching camp of this quality for the first time in Oman. It will definitely be a great opportunity for all aspiring young cricketers in Oman to improve their skills under the guidance of Gary Kirsten Cricket Academy’s professional team.”

“It won’t just be the players who will be benefitting from the camp, but also our coaches who will be attending a workshop conducted by CoachEd.”
