President Droupadi Murmu will confer Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards and preside over the Valedictory Session
With the announcement of dates for the Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas (PBD) 2023, NRIs, PIOs and OCIs from around the world have started registering for participation.
Registration for the event is open through Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas portal (https://pbdindia.gov.in/).
The venue for the three-day (January 8 to 10, 2023) PBD 2023 event is Indore, an important city in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has launched a website with details about the Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas and terms and conditions for registration.
On the concluding day (January 10) Indian President Droupadi Murmu will confer Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards and preside over the Valedictory Session.
The theme of PBD Convention 2023 is ‘Diaspora: Reliable partners for India’s progress in Amrit Kaal’.
A large group of Indian expats from the UAE are set to attend the event in physical form after a gap of four years, Gulf News reported.
Some senior officials of the MEA met with the NRIs living in the UAE and exhorted them to attend the event, which is a flagship event of the government of India to connect with the overseas Indian diaspora. The event happens every two-years. Due to Covid-19 the last PBD was organised virtually.
Anurag Bhushan, MEA Joint Secretary for Overseas Indian Affairs met senior community members to ensure the active participation of the massive Indian expat community in the UAE at the 17th PBD. Bhushan had served as Consul General of India in Dubai.
“We are very happy that finally we are going to have a physical event again after four years…“We have ensured that we give discounts to people who register early also… And then other costs such as transport and accommodation are also kept pretty reasonable. And the state government is working very hard to ensure that the stay of our Indian brethren is as comfortable as possible,” the Gulf News quoted Bhushan as saying.
Asked about possible rush for the event and limited limited flights from the UAE to Indore, Bhushan said: “We are in touch with the Civil Aviation ministry. We are also in touch with other airlines. I think if there is a large numbers, we’ll be able to do something about the flights.”
Addressing a gathering of people of Indian community, Dr Aman Puri, Consul General of India in Dubai said: “We will also be talking to the airlines for operating special charter flights for the same… And we will take full advantage of the direct connectivity we have between Dubai and Indore.”
