Pak agent’s plan to smuggle Gujarat couple into US takes bizarre turn as he holds them captive in Iran for ransom

Ahmedabad: A young couple from Naroda area in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad city, who planned to enter the US illegally are being held hostage held hostage in Iran for ransom by a Pakistani agent, police said, a PTI report in The Tribune, Chandigarh, says

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Chaitanya Mandlik said on Monday, June 20, that efforts are on to register an FIR in this connection at Krushnanagar police station in Naroda area, and the Ahmedabad city crime branch has started investigations into the matter, 

Police officials are in touch with with the Indian Embassy in Iran, to secure the release of the couple, Pankaj Patel and wife Nisha Patel, both aged 29, 

Details given to the police by the couple’s family stated that the couple wanted to enter the US illegally and accordingly got in touch with an agent from Hyderabad, in Pakistan, who arranged for their air tickets.

The couple was supposed to land at Tehran in Iran and then proceed further according to instructions from the agent, police said.

Howeveronce they landed in Tehran a few days ago, the Pakistani agent kept the captive in a hotel room and demanded ransom for their release.

 The agent and an accomplices, thrashed Pankaj Patel and sent a video of that to his relatives, demanding a huge sum of money for the couple’s release, police said.
