Overall, India ended its campaign with two medals as the duo of Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh secured a bronze after losing a close semifinal battle to Ivan Yuen and Rachel Arnold of Malaysia.
Ivan and Rachel, however, were handed a defeat by Dipika and Sandhu, who won a hard-fought contest 11-10 11-8 to clinch the title.
Dipika said the victory is a good preparation for the Asian Games. “It went according to plan. We had trained hard keeping a few specifics in mind, happy the hard yards we put in worked well. It’s always nice to bring a medal back home, nothing beats doing well for the country. It’s a massive confidence boost with the Asian Games around the corner,” she said.
Dipika further praised her partner Harinder. “He is a fantastic player with a wonderful future. We haven’t played with each other, but we have known each other since the junior days and have travelled a lot together.
Earlier, on Thursday, Dipika-Harinder put it across the top-seeded pair of Aira Azman and Shafiq Kamal of Malayasia.
Deepika Pallikal was making her comeback after a year’s break and was last seen competing at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.
The Indian pair defeated three Malaysian pairs en route to the title run. In the semi-final they got the better of seeds Aifa Azman and Kamal which ensured them a place in the final.
