NRI Bizman faces legal action after dharna over delayed building permits

Despite the case being registered on the day of the protest, a notice via WhatsApp instructing him to appear at the police station was sent to Shajimon on Friday

In Kottayam, a case has been filed against Shajimon George, a non-resident businessman, who staged a dharna outside the village council to protest the delayed issuance of building permits. The police have charged him with trespassing into panchayat premises and obstructing the free flow of traffic and public movement. Despite the case being registered on the day of the protest, a notice via WhatsApp instructing him to appear at the police station was sent to Shajimon on Friday.

Following the incident, Shajimon returned to the UK, prompting the police to issue a notice for him to participate in questioning. However, Shajimon, currently abroad, informed the police of his unavailability to visit the station and expressed his intent to take legal action. The police clarified that the case was part of the standard procedure.

On November 7, Shajimon George, an NRI residing in the UK for the past 25 years, initiated a protest outside the Manjoor Village Council, citing the officials’ indifference to issuing building permits. His sports complex, the Beeza Club House, remains inaccessible to the public as the Village Council has not assigned a building number to it.
