Father appeals for help in high Court for NRI son detained in Moscow

Ravi Navlani, a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) and long-time textile businessman in Russia, finds himself in dire straits as he remains detained in Moscow under charges of swindling and preparation of a crime. The distressing situation came to light when his father, Prem Kumar Navlani, lodged a petition with the Bombay High Court, seeking urgent intervention and justice for his son, according to a report from the News Mobile Overseas Bureau.

The petition, filed due to escalating concerns, outlines the circumstances surrounding Ravi’s arrest on July 4 in Moscow. Shockingly, Ravi allegedly endured an attack by six unidentified individuals prior to his apprehension, and subsequent to his arrest, he has reportedly been held without proper legal representation, food, or water for an extended period. The petition emphasizes the absence of legal counsel or a translator during his thirty-hour detention.

Prem Kumar Navlani has made a fervent plea to the Indian government and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to take immediate action to secure Ravi’s release from Russian authorities. The petition underscores the perceived lack of due process and humane treatment during Ravi’s detention, categorizing it as “preventive” for a two-month period.

Disturbingly, Ravi alleges that he has been subjected to physical abuse and coercion to pay for his release by certain Russian officials, raising serious concerns about the treatment of foreign nationals within the Russian judicial system.
