VISA Passport Camp held in Chicago

Over 500 members of the Indian community attended the camp, which focused on addressing the challenges related to OCI Cards and Passports

In a collaborative effort between the Federation of Indian Associations of Chicago (FIA) and the Consulate General of India office, Chicago, a significant OCI/Passport Camp took place at Manav Seva Mandir in Bensenville, a Chicago suburb. Over 500 members of the Indian community attended the camp, which focused on addressing the challenges related to OCI Cards and Passports.

Consul General Somnath and over six consulate staff members dedicated their support to address inquiries and process paperwork for OCI Cards. The event aimed to provide comprehensive assistance to the Indian diaspora, showcasing a commitment to strengthening ties and enhancing support for the community abroad.

The overwhelming response, with more than 1000 telephonic inquiries and 550 registrations for the OCI camp, highlighted the high demand for essential services provided by the Consulate General Office. The streamlined process offered various OCI services, including new applications and re-issuance, and provided a platform for attendees to engage with consular officials for guidance on consular matters.

Dr Bhart Bhai Barai commended the super success of the camp, advocating for similar events at least twice a year, and acknowledged the hard work of EC committee members in ensuring the event’s success

The camp also featured expert-led informational sessions covering legal rights, cultural exchange programs, and updates on the latest OCI regulations. Participants had the opportunity to apply for Indian Visas and receive assistance in filling out forms.

Expressing gratitude for the FIA initiative and community participation, Consul General and VSF Representative emphasized the ongoing commitment to providing essential services and support to the Indian diaspora. Dr. Rashmi Patel, President of FIA Chicago, regarded the collaboration as a significant step in strengthening community bonds, looking forward to more such initiatives benefiting the Indian diaspora.

Appreciating the active involvement of participants, Dr. Patel thanked the Women Empowering Group for their volunteer work and the youth empowering group for their excellent services. Dr. Bhart Bhai Barai commended the super success of the camp, advocating for similar events at least twice a year, and acknowledged the hard work of EC committee members in ensuring the event’s success.
