In the pursuit of justice and equality, there exists a force of nature – women judges who stand at the forefront of the legal system, wielding their wisdom, compassion, and unwavering commitment to uphold the rule of law. Every year on 10th March as we commemorate the International Day of Women Judges, we celebrate the trailblazers and visionaries who have shattered barriers, defied stereotypes, and paved the way for a more inclusive and equitable judiciary.

Throughout history, women have fought tirelessly for their rightful place on the bench, challenging societal norms and overcoming entrenched biases to claim their seat at the table of justice. From the first female lawyers who dared to enter a male-dominated profession to the pioneering judges who have broken new ground in jurisprudence, women have been at the vanguard of progress in the legal field.

But the journey has not been easy. Women judges have faced discrimination, skepticism, and outright hostility in their quest for equality. Yet, with courage and determination, they have persevered, proving time and again that gender is not a barrier to excellence in the judiciary.

Today, as we celebrate the International Day of Women Judges, we pay tribute to the countless women who have dedicated their lives to the pursuit of justice – women who have brought empathy, integrity, and fairness to the courtroom, and who have inspired generations of aspiring jurists to follow in their footsteps.

But our celebration goes beyond mere recognition – it is a call to action, a rallying cry for greater gender equality in the judiciary. Despite the progress that has been made, women remain underrepresented in judicial positions around the world, particularly in senior and leadership roles. This imbalance not only undermines the principles of fairness and impartiality but also deprives society of the diverse perspectives and experiences that women bring to the bench.

  • So on this International Day of Women Judges, let us honor the past, celebrate the present, and empower the future

  • Together, let us continue the march towards a more just, equitable, and inclusive judiciary, where the voices of women are heard and their contributions are valued

  • For in the words of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, “Women belong in all places where decisions are being made.”

As we commemorate this day, let us recommit ourselves to the cause of gender equality in the judiciary. Let us work tirelessly to dismantle the barriers that hold women back from reaching their full potential, whether it be through mentorship programs, leadership training, or advocacy for policy reforms. Let us strive to create a legal system that reflects the rich diversity of our society and upholds the principles of justice and equality for all.

But above all, let us celebrate the remarkable achievements of women judges around the world – women who have not only broken through glass ceilings but who have shattered them entirely, paving the way for future generations of women to follow in their footsteps. Their courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment to justice serve as an inspiration to us all, reminding us that when women are empowered to lead, the possibilities are limitless.

So on this International Day of Women Judges, let us honor the past, celebrate the present, and empower the future. Together, let us continue the march towards a more just, equitable, and inclusive judiciary, where the voices of women are heard and their contributions are valued. For in the words of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, “Women belong in all places where decisions are being made.”
