Amid ongoing layoffs in the tech sector, a heartfelt video by an Indian-origin software engineer in the United States has ignited a flurry of reactions on social media. The engineer shared his story of discovering that his job, along with those of his entire team, was being outsourced to workers in India.

In the video, he introduces himself and recounts his shock during the exit interview when he learned about the company’s decision. Despite his Indian heritage, which he thought might secure his position, he was informed that the move was purely a cost-saving measure.

The video, captioned “Indian software engineer is laid off and replaced by… Indians,” has garnered over 3 million views on X

“I told them, ‘I’m already Indian, right? Why not keep me and hire my friends instead?’ I explained that I was born in India and my family moved to the US for work,” he said, expressing his disbelief. The company’s response was stark: “They told me, ‘No, you don’t understand. We’re moving these jobs to India where they can be done more cheaply.’ In that moment, I felt like every father who’s ever lamented about jobs being outsourced. I thought, ‘Damn, Indians are taking our jobs,'” he recounted.

The video, captioned “Indian software engineer is laid off and replaced by… Indians,” has garnered over 3 million views on X (formerly Twitter), amassing more than 30,000 likes and a flood of comments. One user remarked, “He doesn’t get it. He’s being laid off because he’s too costly.” Another commented, “It’s always enlightening when someone with progressive views encounters tough economic truths.”
