An Indian family that relocated to Australia two years ago is now contemplating a return to India, specifically to Bengaluru. A family member recently shared their reasons for this decision on Reddit, revealing why Bengaluru is emerging as their top choice, media reports said.

Having initially moved from Gurgaon to Australia in July 2022, the family is now drawn back to India, primarily to be closer to their extended family. The Reddit user highlighted Bengaluru’s cosmopolitan and vibrant community as a significant factor in their decision.

They also emphasized the importance of Indian festivals like Diwali, Holi, Rakhi, and Ganesh Chaturthi, which hold a special place in their hearts. Although their family is based in North India, the user expressed comfort in the idea of traveling from Bengaluru to visit them.

North Bengaluru, in particular, has gained favor among NRIs due to its safety, security, and transparency. The survey found that 57% of NRI property buyers intend to purchase homes for personal use, while 43% plan to buy for their families residing in India

This family’s inclination towards Bengaluru aligns with a broader trend among Non-Resident Indians (NRIs). According to a survey by proptech unicorn NoBroker, Bengaluru has become the top choice for NRIs investing in real estate. The survey, which included 12,000 NRIs, revealed that 45% are interested in buying property in India, with Bengaluru attracting 29% of these potential buyers, making it the most preferred city, followed by Mumbai at 24% and Hyderabad at 18%.

A report in the Economic Times quoted Kishore Jain, Chairperson of the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI). He noted that global geopolitical conditions are prompting NRIs to invest in Bengaluru. He pointed out that despite the city’s infrastructure challenges, its lifestyle, safety, and welcoming atmosphere make it a secure haven for returning NRIs.
