The British Academy is now accepting applications for its prestigious Visiting Fellowships for the year 2025. These fellowships offer exceptional scholars from around the world the chance to conduct research at a UK higher education or research institution.

The programme is open to academics at any career stage and from any discipline within the humanities and social sciences.

The Visiting Fellowships are designed to support scholars for a period ranging from three to six months. During the application process, applicants will need to specify their preferred start date for the fellowship, which should fall within the spring and summer months of 2025 (March-August). The British Academy provides funding up to £40,000 for each fellowship, covering a range of expenses.

To be eligible for this opportunity, applicants must meet certain criteria. They should hold a postdoctoral level position or have equivalent research experience at the time of their application

Candidates must also be based outside the UK and can be employed on either a permanent or fixed-term contract, with the stipulation that any fixed-term contract does not expire before the fellowship ends. Independent scholars are also encouraged to apply. Additionally, applicants must have already established contact with a potential host institution in the UK prior to applying. However, it is important to note that the British Academy does not facilitate the process of finding or contacting a host institution.

Interested scholars have until 5 pm (GMT) on October 23 to submit their applications. More information, including the application form, can be found on the British

Academy’s official website: thebritishacademy.ac.uk/funding/visiting-fellowships/.
