Air Kerala, the latest Indian airline set to cater to regional and international markets, has confirmed Harish Kutty as its CEO. With over 35 years of experience in the aviation industry, including roles at British Airways, Air Arabia, and SpiceJet, Kutty will oversee the airline’s launch and expansion efforts.
Kutty shared his vision for Air Kerala, highlighting that the airline represents the aspirations of millions of Malayalees worldwide. “This airline embodies the hopes, culture, and spirit of our people,” Kutty remarked, expressing his commitment to leading the project with dedication.
Operational Plans
Air Kerala received initial approval from India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) in July 2024 to operate regional air services. The airline plans to start domestic operations by the second quarter of 2025, followed by international services to the UAE a year later. The airline is expected to secure its Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC) by mid-2025.

Based in Kochi, Kerala, the airline will initially lease three ATR 72-60 aircraft, a twin-engine turboprop designed for short-haul routes. The 78-seater planes will connect smaller cities (Tier 2 and Tier 3) to major Indian hubs, improving accessibility and convenience for travelers. Kutty revealed plans to expand the fleet to 20 aircraft by 2028, enabling international operations. Future international expansion will rely on Boeing 737s or Airbus A320s, with the aircraft sourced from the leasing market.
Hiring and Recruitment
Air Kerala’s immediate focus is on hiring key personnel responsible for maintaining the airworthiness of its aircraft. The recruitment of pilots and cabin crew will follow, ensuring the airline’s operational readiness for the 2025 launch.
