India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish urged global cooperation in these efforts, positioning India as a steadfast partner in promoting long-term peace and stability
India has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Palestinian people, pledging to bolster humanitarian and developmental assistance amid ongoing tensions in the Middle East, etvbharat.com reported.
Speaking at the United Nations Security Council’s Open Debate on the Middle East situation, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish, highlighted the nation’s readiness to expand its support efforts and advocate for a peaceful resolution in the region.
“India stands ready to do more for the Palestinian people,” Harish stated, emphasizing India’s active role in humanitarian relief and economic development for Palestine. To date, India’s development assistance to Palestine has reached USD 120 million, with a significant portion, USD 37 million, directed to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
“India underlines its abiding faith in a peaceful and stable Middle East. As a reliable partner, India is committed to engaging with all concerned stakeholders to forge long-term peace and stability.”
— Parvathaneni Harish
In a demonstration of immediate support, India recently dispatched an initial shipment of six tonnes of medicines and medical supplies to UNRWA on October 22. Harish also condemned the recent violence in the region, describing the October 7 terror attacks in Israel as “unequivocally” condemnable and calling for a halt to escalating hostilities.
India continues to advocate for an urgent ceasefire and the immediate release of hostages, stressing the need for a two-state solution to ensure lasting peace and sovereignty for both Palestinians and Israelis. “We support a two-state solution, which entails the establishment of a sovereign and independent Palestine within mutually agreed borders,” Harish noted.
