Indian-American leader and prominent community advocate Sudhir Parikh recently expressed optimism that the recent election of Donald Trump as U.S. President could play a crucial role in addressing the ongoing India-Canada diplomatic standoff, reported aninews.in.

Speaking with ANI News, Parikh underscored Trump’s “historic victory” as a testament to the resilience and dynamism of U.S. democracy. Representing the “Hindus for Trump” coalition—a group of Indian-Americans and South Asian Hindus who supported Trump—Parikh shared that Trump’s leadership might open avenues for easing tensions between India and Canada.

Following Trump’s victory, the Indian-American community has planned celebratory events in New York and New Jersey. These gatherings are set to include prominent Congress members, senators, and community leaders, with Indian-Americans from various walks of life joining in to commemorate the electoral win.

  • Turning to the India-Canada issue, Parikh expressed hope for Trump’s diplomatic efforts

  • The recent rise in violence against members of the Hindu community in Canada has drawn international concern, with Parikh’s group addressing the matter directly with Trump

  • “President Trump assured us that, if elected, he would do his best to resolve this issue diplomatically,” Parikh said, emphasizing Trump’s commitment to seeking a peaceful resolution

Parikh highlighted that nearly half of Indian-American voters resonate with Republican principles, aligning with conservative values on various issues. “Almost 50% of Indian-Americans believe in the Republican philosophy and agenda,” he noted, pointing to the growing diversification in the community’s political affiliations over recent years. He added that Trump’s appreciation for community fundraisers further solidified support for his presidential campaigns, both in 2024 and previous runs.

Emphasizing the importance of political engagement, Parikh encouraged Indian-Americans to actively participate in mainstream U.S. politics. “Some of us support the Republican Party, others the Democratic Party, but regardless, involvement in American politics is essential. It’s about protecting our community, our interests, and the interests of future generations,” Parikh stated, advocating for sustained community involvement across political spectrums.
