The inaugural India-Philippines Maritime Dialogue convened on December 13, 2024, in Manila, marking a significant milestone in the growing partnership between the two nations.
The Indian delegation was led by Muanpuii Saiawi, Joint Secretary, Disarmament and International Security Affairs, Ministry of External Affairs, while the Philippines delegation was headed by Marshall Louis Alferez, Assistant Secretary, Maritime and Ocean Affairs Office, Department of Foreign Affairs.
The event coincided with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and the Philippines, adding a historic touch to the discussions.

The two nations agreed on several initiatives aimed at capacity building in critical areas, including the maritime industry, marine scientific research, ocean economy, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR), naval and coast guard cooperation, and maritime law enforcement

Sharing best practices and enhancing joint efforts in these domains were key outcomes of the dialogue
Both sides engaged in an exchange of views on pressing maritime challenges and explored pathways to deepen maritime cooperation. A shared commitment to fostering a rules-based order, particularly the principles enshrined in the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), formed the cornerstone of the dialogue.
The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral engagement and collaborating at international and regional platforms to achieve mutual objectives.
