Odisha prepares for Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas 2025

As the state gears up for this historic occasion, the convergence of culture, heritage, and global outreach promises to leave an indelible mark on the attendees and the state’s reputation

Odisha is set to host the prestigious 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas (PBD) for the first time, with Bhubaneswar taking center stage from January 8 to 10, 2025, reported timesofindia.indiatimes.com.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi recently reviewed the extensive preparations for the event, which is expected to spotlight Odisha on the global map.

Highlighting the significance of this milestone, Chief Minister Majhi remarked, “This is a golden opportunity to establish Odisha on the global stage. The Prime Minister also places great importance on this event. The event should be organised attractively and flawlessly to enhance Odisha’s image worldwide.”

Key Highlights of the Event

  • Participation of National Leaders: The event will feature key dignitaries, including the Minister of Foreign Trade on January 8, the Prime Minister on January 9, and the President of India on January 10.
  • Plenary Sessions: Themes such as “Unraveling India’s Best Kept Secret” and “Odisha – the Land of Opportunities” will be explored in depth. The event will also showcase Odisha’s rich cultural heritage, including its history, art, sculpture, music, dance, tribal traditions, language, literature, and tourism. The state’s vision for 2036 and 2047 will be highlighted as part of the forward-looking agenda.
  • Festivals and Celebrations: A series of vibrant festivals will coincide with PBD 2025, including:

o          Rajarani Music Festival (January 7-11)

o          Mukteshwar Dance Festival (January 7-11)

o          International Odissi Dance Festival (January 7-11)

o          Tribal Dance and Folk Art Festival (January 7-11)

o          Tribal Fair (January 5-15)

o          Chilika Bird Festival (January 6-12)

o          Flower Show (January 7-11)

o          Food Fest (January 8-10)

o          Night Flea Market (January 8-10)

City Beautification and Preparations

Bhubaneswar is undergoing a major transformation to meet international standards. Roads are being renovated, illuminated, and artistically decorated, while a citywide cleanliness drive is engaging local residents. Tourist spots in Bhubaneswar, Puri, Konark, and Jajpur are being beautified, with arrangements to guide delegates to 28 renowned destinations.

Accommodation and Logistics

The government anticipates the arrival of approximately 7,500 delegates. Over 3,700 rooms have been booked, complemented by homestay options for added hospitality. Committees formed to oversee the event’s logistics are conducting regular meetings to ensure seamless execution.
