Prime Minister Modi to flag off Pravasi Bharatiya Express, a special tourist train for Indian diaspora
The 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention, the largest gathering of the Indian diaspora, will take place in Bhubaneswar from January 8 to 10. This year’s event will feature four unique exhibitions, including one on the universal legacy of the Ramayana, alongside showcases on diaspora contributions to technology and cultural heritage , reported newindianexpress.com.
Celebrating the diaspora’s role in building a prosperous India
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the event on January 9, while Christine Carla Kangaloo, President of Trinidad & Tobago, will address the gathering virtually. The convention will serve as a platform for global diaspora engagement, focusing on this year’s theme, “Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat.”
The convention will also feature four thematic exhibitions:

Vishwaroop Ram – The Universal Legacy of Ramayana: Presenting the timeless epic through traditional and contemporary art forms.

Diaspora’s Contribution to Technology and Viksit Bharat: Highlighting global tech advances driven by Indian-origin innovators.

Spread and Evolution of the Indian Diaspora: Showcasing migration stories, including rare documents of Indian migrants from Mandvi, Gujarat, to Muscat, Oman.

Heritage and Culture of Odisha: Exploring Odisha’s rich art, culture, and legacy.
President Droupadi Murmu will preside over the valedictory session on January 10, presenting the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards 2025 to outstanding diaspora members in recognition of their achievements.
A showcase of heritage, innovation, and connectivity
A major highlight will be the launch of the Pravasi Bharatiya Express, a dedicated tourist train for the Indian diaspora. This three-week journey, starting from Nizamuddin Railway Station in Delhi, will cover key religious and tourist destinations under the Pravasi Teertha Darshan Yojana by the Ministry of External Affairs.
