India hosts Historic Summit to foster regional cooperation among youth
The 1st BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) Youth Summit is being held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat from February 7-11, 2025.
The initiative aims to strengthen regional cooperation among youth from the Bay of Bengal region and is a follow-up to the Prime Minister’s announcement at the 4th BIMSTEC Summit.
The event is jointly organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and the Ministry of External Affairs, with CII YI as the knowledge partner.
Through this historic initiative, BIMSTEC aims to accelerate youth-led regional development, fostering stronger ties and collaboration among the next generation of leaders
The Summit was inaugurated on February 8 by Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports of India, along with Bhupendrabhai Patel, Chief Minister of Gujarat, MoS for Youth Affairs & Sports Raksha Khadse, and Jaideep Mazumdar, Secretary (East) of MEA.
The event marks the beginning of a three-day gathering where young leaders from BIMSTEC nations will discuss key regional challenges and opportunities in areas like entrepreneurship, digital connectivity, cyberspace, and sustainable development.
This initiative reinforces India’s commitment to regional cooperation through its ‘Neighborhood First’ policy, ‘Act East’ policy, and ‘Security & Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR)’ vision.
The Summit, themed ‘Youth as a Bridge for Intra-BIMSTEC Exchange,’ hosts over seventy youth delegates from seven member nations—Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.
Participants include Ministers, Members of Parliament, Mayors, entrepreneurs, technology developers, cultural figures, social media influencers, and civil society leaders. The Summit focuses on three broad objectives: encouraging youth engagement in addressing economic and social challenges, fostering strategic discussions on empowering young leaders, and generating ideas for a brighter future.
