MEA Raises Objections Over Treatment of Indian Deportees
The Indian government has expressed serious concerns to the U.S. administration in Washington and New Delhi regarding the treatment of 104 alleged illegal Indian immigrants who were deported on February 5, 2025.
The deportees, including women and children, were flown back to India on a 42-hour flight aboard a U.S. military plane while being restrained with leg shackles and handcuffs, reported thehindu.com.
While the Ministry of External Affairs has acknowledged these concerns, it has not confirmed whether a formal diplomatic protest has been lodged
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar had previously stated in Parliament that U.S. authorities had assured India that women and children are not restrained on such flights
Officials have specifically raised objections to the treatment of women and children on board.
Reports from deportees indicate that women were handcuffed and children were restrained with ropes around their legs.
