Anita Anand and Kamal Khera appointed as ministers in Carney’s new government
Two Indian-origin leaders, Anita Anand and Kamal Khera, have been appointed to key positions in the cabinet of Canada’s new Prime Minister, Mark Carney. Both ministers were also part of former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s administration, reported gujaratsamachar.com.
Anand and Khera Take on Key Portfolios
Anita Anand, 58, has been named Minister of Innovation, Science, and Industry, while Kamal Khera, 36, will serve as Minister of Health.

Kamal Khera, a registered nurse, expressed her dedication to the new role, stating:
“As a nurse, my top priority is always to support my patients, and that’s the same mentality I’ll bring every day to the role of Minister of Health. Extremely grateful for the confidence of PM Carney. Now, it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get to work.”
Meanwhile, Anita Anand emphasized her vision for Canada’s progress, stating:
“I am honored to be sworn in as the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Economic Development in PM Carney’s government.”

Mark Carney Takes Oath as Canada’s New PM
Mark Carney was officially sworn in as Canada’s Prime Minister on March 15, replacing Justin Trudeau. An economist and former Governor of the Bank of Canada and Bank of England, Carney took the oath of office in the presence of Governor General Mary Simon, the official representative of King Charles.
In his inaugural statement, Carney highlighted his commitment to Canadian sovereignty, stating he would meet with Donald Trump only when there is respect for Canada’s sovereignty.
