Muscat – Indian and Pakistani expatriates in Oman have expressed heartfelt relief and optimism after the announcement of a ceasefire agreement between the two nations, brokered by the United States on Saturday, marking a significant de-escalation in regional tensions, reported timesofoman.com.

Ceasefire announcement hailed as a vital step toward peace and stability by South Asian expat communities in Oman

In a post on Truth Social, US President Donald Trump shared: “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence.”

The ceasefire has resonated deeply with South Asian expatriates in Oman, many of whom had been closely following the situation back home.

“Thank God it’s over,” said Manoj Didwania, an Indian businessman in Muscat. “This is a constructive move that promotes regional stability and gives peace a chance—not just for the two countries, but for the broader region.”

Mohsin Sheikh, a Pakistani expat in Muscat, echoed similar sentiments. “Conflict is never the solution. We welcome this ceasefire and hope it marks the beginning of continuous dialogue and peace. Living in Oman, I’ve shared wonderful bonds with Indian friends—we are not divided by borders here.”

Many expats also highlighted the practical impact of the unrest, particularly the suspension of flights by SalamAir and Oman Air. These disruptions followed Pakistan’s closure of its airspace, causing inconvenience for travellers.

SalamAir announced it would suspend services to and from Pakistan until May 13, citing safety as a top priority. Oman Air also confirmed cancellations between Muscat and Karachi on May 11 and 12, offering rebooking options and assistance to affected passengers.

Airlines and authorities have advised travellers to stay updated via official channels as the situation evolves.
