India has again extended the ban on international flights till August 31. As per the earlier decision, the ban was to end on Saturday (July 31, 2021).
The ban on scheduled international passenger services from India began in March 2020 (March 20, 2020). That was the time when most of the countries around the world suspended scheduled flights.
Under the air bubble scheme, India started ‘Vande Bharat’ mission to bring back Indians who were stranded in many countries due to visa expiry, job issues or even health issues. The service is still in operation on a case-to-case basis.

The cargo operations and air bubble arrangements, for which India has signed agreements with many countries, will continue.

With the current decision, taken as a precautionary measure against Covid-19, the scheduled international flights from India are banned for the last 16 months.
The cargo operations and air bubble arrangements, for which India has signed agreements with many countries, will continue.
The decision, however, has shattered the hopes of many Indians who are employed in foreign countries but are stuck in India due to the flight ban.
India has entered into air bubble with 28 countries. These countries include Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Canada, Ethiopia, France, Germany, Iraq, Japan, Kenya, Kuwait, Maldives, Nepal, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Qatar, Rwanda, Tanzania, Ukraine, UAE, UK, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and the USA, as per recent updates.
A circular from India’s civil aviation watchdog, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), said in a circular, “International scheduled flights may be allowed on selected routes by the competent authority on a case-to-case basis.”
