Harjeet Singh Dhadda, a 51-year-old Indian-origin Sikh entrepreneur from Bazpur, Uttarakhand, was fatally shot outside his office in Mississauga, Ontario, on Wednesday, in what authorities believe to be a targeted killing linked to extortion threats, reported gujaratsamachar.com.

The incident occurred around 11:53 am near Tranmere Drive and Telford Way, where emergency services found Dhadda with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses reported hearing 15–16 rounds fired before the assailants fled.

Dhadda, a respected figure in the Canadian Punjabi community, had reportedly refused to pay extortion money before being gunned down in broad daylight.

Dhadda had built a reputable trucking safety and insurance consultancy over the past 15 years and was known for his integrity. His daughter, Gurleen Dhadda, shared that her father had received threatening calls demanding $500,000, which he refused to pay, maintaining that he would not give in to pressure or fear.

In a chilling development, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the murder, alleging Dhadda had facilitated bail for Arsh Dalla, the chief of the pro-Khalistan separatist group Khalistan Tiger Force. This claim is under investigation as Peel Regional Police review security footage and pursue leads in the homicide case.

A member of the Canadian Sikh Gurdwara Committee, Dhadda was widely respected and actively involved in community affairs. His tragic death has sparked outrage and fear across the community, with many calling on Canadian authorities to ensure justice is served and protective measures are taken for others facing similar threats.
