Temporary halt disrupts plans for thousands as uncertainty grips upcoming academic term
Indian students are facing renewed anxiety following the United States’ unexpected suspension of visa processing for international students. Citing administrative backlogs and system upgrades, the US authorities have paused a key process that thousands of students were relying on for travel and enrollment in the upcoming academic session, reported gulfnews.com.
With travel plans on hold, many Indian students consider deferring admission or switching countries.
The sudden halt has sent shockwaves through India’s student community. “I had everything lined up—admission, accommodation, even flight tickets,” the report quoted Priya Sharma, who was preparing to begin her studies in the US, as saying.
“Now I don’t know what’s next,” she said.
- Education consultants across India are seeing a surge in concerned queries. Many students are now considering deferring their admissions or applying to universities in other destinations such as Canada, the UK, or Australia—countries perceived as more predictable in terms of visa processing
The US embassy has not announced a specific timeline for resuming services but emphasized that efforts are ongoing to address the issue swiftly. India consistently ranks among the top countries sending students to the US, making this temporary disruption especially significant.
