Dr Faruk G. Patel, Chairman and Managing Director of KP Group, has built one of India’s most dynamic renewable energy conglomerates from humble beginnings into a Rs165 billion enterprise. The Surat-based firm, which has been at the forefront of India’s green-energy revolution, is now eyeing expansion into Dubai and the UAE, reported khaleejtimes.com.

From a bus conductor’s son to green-energy pioneer, Dr Patel embodies visionary entrepreneurship and sustainability leadership.

Born to a bus conductor, Dr Patel grew up witnessing his father’s hard work and sacrifice, which inspired his own drive to succeed. Over three decades, he transformed KP Group from modest logistics beginnings into a multi-domain renewable energy powerhouse, spanning solar, wind, hybrid, hydrogen, and EV infrastructure

The group has commissioned over 2 GW of solar and wind projects, with more than 4 GW under development and a target of 10 GW by 2030.

KP Group’s portfolio includes large solar projects under IPP & CPP segments, integrated facilities for engineering, galvanising, power generation, and EPC services, as well as emerging green hydrogen and smart energy storage initiatives. The company has signed significant MoUs with the Government of Gujarat and earned accolades for sustainability, innovation, and community development through the KP Human Development Foundation.

Dr Patel’s journey is marked by resilience, innovation, and a commitment to India’s net-zero goals.

From unloading bricks himself in his early logistics days to surviving telecom sector downturns, Dr Patel found his calling in renewable energy during Gujarat’s solar boom. He purchased 220 acres of land to start KPI Green Energy Ltd, delivering long-term sustainable power generation. Today, the company has built and energised over 500 MW of IPP capacity, with 1.5 million solar panels sourced entirely from India.

Beyond business, Dr Patel contributes to philanthropic initiatives including old age homes and centres for children with special needs. His work aligns with UAE’s sustainability ambitions and the COP28-driven global energy transition. Recognized in Forbes and Fortune and conferred an honorary doctorate for sustainable development, Dr Patel continues to inspire through his vision of “Building a Greener Tomorrow.”
