Utkarsh Amitabh, a UK-based entrepreneur of Indian origin, is earning about $200 (₹18,000) per hour working part-time on artificial intelligence tools, highlighting the growing demand for skilled human input in AI development.
Speaking to CNBC Make It, Amitabh said he began the freelance role with data-labeling startup micro1 in January 2025, driven more by intellectual curiosity than financial need
Working around 3.5 hours each night, Amitabh helps stress-test enterprise AI models, identify errors, and refine prompts to improve accuracy. Since January, he has earned close to $300,000 (approximately ₹2.6 crore), including bonuses.
