Overall, the Germany visit highlighted Congress’s efforts to reconnect with Indians abroad and position them as partners in India’s democratic journey, signaling a broader strategy of global engagement ahead of upcoming electoral challenges
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, concluded a significant engagement with the Indian diaspora during his visit to Germany on December 22, 2025, underscoring the growing importance of overseas Indians in India’s political and social discourse. The visit reflected the Congress party’s renewed focus on strengthening global connections with Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and incorporating their perspectives into the party’s vision for India.
During his stay, Rahul Gandhi met Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) Europe Convener Daljit Singh Sahota, who accompanied him through a series of interactions with members of the Indian community and IOC leaders across Germany. Addressing leaders and members of the Indian Overseas Congress, Rahul Gandhi expressed confidence about the Congress party’s prospects in Punjab, stating that the party aims to form the government in the state in 2027
He emphasized that the active involvement and support of NRIs would be a key factor in achieving this goal. According to party sources, he acknowledged the influence overseas Indians have in shaping public opinion and contributing ideas, investments, and advocacy for democratic institutions.
A major highlight of the visit was Rahul Gandhi’s interaction with the Indian community at the “Connecting Cultures” programme organized by the Indian Overseas Congress.
