With its editorial focus on lived experiences, leadership, innovation, and cultural identity, Pravasi Samwad aspires to become a credible, unifying voice for the Indian diaspora worldwide
Celebrated music composer and Padma Shri awardee Shankar Mahadevan launched Pravasi Samwad, a dedicated magazine for the global Indian community.
The Indian diaspora media landscape marked a significant milestone with the launch of the magazine, which aspires to emerge as a platform for global Indian community.
The magazine was unveiled in collaboration with the Legacy Media and Media Entertainment and Skills Council (MESC) at a simple ceremony in Mumbai.
The launch coincided with the release of a special edition of Pravasi Samwad featuring 11 distinguished recipients of the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (PBSA) 2025—India’s highest honour for overseas Indians. The magazine has announced plans to profile the remaining 16 PBSA awardees across two forthcoming editions, ensuring comprehensive documentation of their global contributions.
“The magazine “has a long way to go in achieving its goals of offering the right platform to the Indian diaspora.”
— Dr Sayed Anwar Khursheed, PBSA awardee from Saudi Arabia
Speaking on the vision behind the magazine, Kaushalendra S Singh, Editor-in-Chief of Pravasi Samwad, said: “Pravasi Samwad is a magazine that aims to create a much-needed platform for the Indian diaspora across the globe. It seeks to document and highlight their journeys, challenges, and outstanding achievements—stories that often remain underrepresented despite their profound global impact. Through this platform, we endeavour to bring these voices to the forefront and honour their contributions to India and the world. We sincerely hope that, over time, Pravasi Samwad will emerge as a popular medium for NRIs to tell their stories and engage meaningfully with the diaspora.”
Highlighting the importance of skill, creativity, and global storytelling, Dr Mohit Soni, CEO, Media Entertainment and Skills Council, noted: “The Indian diaspora has been a powerful ambassador of India’s talent, values, and creativity worldwide. Pravasi Samwad is a timely initiative that not only celebrates these contributions but also creates a structured platform to document excellence, inspire future generations, and strengthen India’s global cultural narrative.”
Extending his greetings, Dr Sayed Anwar Khursheed, PBSA awardee from Saudi Arabia, appreciated the initiative, stating that the magazine “has a long way to go in achieving its goals of offering the right platform to the Indian diaspora,” and lauded the team’s commitment to representing overseas Indians with authenticity and purpose.
