Ahmedabad police have arrested two women and recovered stolen gold jewellery belonging to an Indian-origin woman from the United States who had come to Gujarat to attend a religious programme. The swift action by the city’s crime branch led to the recovery of the entire set of ornaments within hours of the theft.
The complainant, identified as Saryuben, is an NRI based in the US. She had travelled to Ahmedabad with her family to take part in a satsang at Adalaj Trimandir. Along with her, she was carrying ancestral gold jewellery, which she intended to get redesigned into new ornaments for her son and daughter-in-law.

The theft took place while Saryuben was travelling by bus after the religious programme
-
Realising that her jewellery was missing, she immediately approached the Satellite police station and lodged a complaint
-
Given the value of the ornaments and the short time frame, the crime branch moved quickly to investigate the case
Using technical surveillance, local intelligence, and inputs gathered from the area, police tracked down two suspects. The women were first detained and later formally arrested. They have been identified as Ramila Parmar, 28, from Vadaj, and Sarla Ganva, 34, from Nirnaynagar. According to investigators, both women are originally from Dahod district and had come to Ahmedabad claiming they were searching for daily wage work.
Police said the accused used children as a shield to avoid suspicion and to move freely in crowded public places, particularly buses, where passengers are often distracted. This method helped them target victims without drawing attention.
