Thailand has introduced major changes to its visa system in a bid to attract more visitors, professionals and students from India and other countries. The new measures, approved by the Thai Cabinet on 13 February 2026, aim to make travel and long-term stays simpler and more attractive.

One of the key changes is a 60-day visa-free entry scheme for citizens of 93 countries, including India. This doubles the previous 30-day limit and applies to tourism, short-term business trips and meetings. The move is expected to boost Indian travel to Thailand and help the country compete with other popular destinations such as Singapore and Malaysia.

Thailand has also launched the “Destination Thailand Visa” (DTV), designed for remote workers, digital nomads and entrepreneurs

The visa is valid for up to five years and allows multiple entries, with stays of up to 180 days per visit. Indian tech professionals and startup founders, many of whom already work with Thai companies, could benefit from this flexible option. In addition, a new “ED Plus” visa will encourage Indian students to combine study with internships.

The visa system itself has been simplified. Thailand has reduced non-immigrant visa categories, expanded its e-Visa platform worldwide and introduced a digital arrival card to replace paper forms. Facial-recognition e-gates are expected at major airports ahead of the 2026 Diwali travel season, making entry faster and more convenient.
